This effort is a tribute to my mom, for I am caring and compassionate because of her. I am a Registered Nurse who has spent many years studying the literature on the care of dementia victims. I lost the woman I loved most, my mom, to this dreadful disease. The initial reason for this blog was to get the word out that these most fragile of our loved ones are too often receiving sedatives in lieu of adequate pain control. I have now broadened the focus to include “All Things Dementia.” Please join me in sharing your own stories including thoughts on how we may encourage change in the current care system. Dementia victims are whole human beings in distress who are still living, breathing, thinking, and feeling. They are in need of physical comfort, love, companionship, understanding, and patience. They are not just half-empty or half-full old people who don’t know what’s going on!!! If we don’t stand up for these most vulnerable and fragile loved ones, no one will.
